NASHVILLE (Reuters) – A rare Asian hooded crane, normally seen only in Southeast Asia, China and Japan, apparently “took a wrong turn” and has joined sandhill cranes wintering at the Hiwassee Refuge in southeast Tennessee, bird experts say, drawing flocks of curious birdwatchers along with it.

据路透社消息，海沃西保护区（Hiwassee Refuge）的监测人员在一群越冬的沙丘鹤中发现一只白头鹤。自12月中旬以来沙丘鹤迁徙过来后，在该地已经有7天看到这只白头鹤了。一直以来，白头鹤仅在东南亚、中国和日本有记录。这只白头鹤引起了许多观鸟爱好者的关注，鸟类专家称这是田纳西州东南部世纪以来的最精彩的一个记录。当地的鸟友也在协助远道而来的观鸟者观赏白头鹤。

The number of hooded cranes in Chongming Island has increased to 80. By the end of last month , it was only about 30. They will stay in the Eastern Tideland of Chongming Island for 140-150 days.

6 hooded cranes was sighted on Shengjin Lake , one of main wintering habitats of the bird. More and more hooded cranes will get here by the end of this month.

2011年11月2日上午，升金湖金山圩湿地及附近区域观察到6只白头鹤。据悉，目前正是白头鹤大量越冬迁徙的时间，它们中的大多数个体将于本月底之前到达越冬地。

A pen friend accidently photographed a lost hooded crane near the sea in Longshan Town, Cixi City, Zhejiang Province, China. This probably resulted from its shift of migration routes. Due to the lack of large wetlands in Zhejiang, there was little previous record of cranes before. In January of this year, a hooded crane was sighted for the first time.

2011年10月29日下午，浙江网友在慈溪龙山的海边意外抓拍到一只白头鹤。浙江由于缺少大型湿地，此前关于鹤类的记录极少，上次观察到是在今年1月份。据推断，这只白头鹤很可能因某种原因不小心偏离了迁徙路线而落了单。

19 Oct – 23 Oct 2011 representatives from project team Migratory behaviour and diet-item survey of hooded cranes in Zhalong Nature Reserve together with Claire Mirande from International Crane Foundation and Dr. Yumin Guo surveyed Zhalong Nature Reserve, China for hooded cranes on their autumn migration. We recorded around 1400 hooded cranes in Junmachang, taking off at 6am every morning from their rest sites towards their feeding sites. The feeding sites were usually farmlands of corns or beans, as corns, red-beans and green-beans are among the diet menu of hooded cranes. We found a scarce quantity of droppings of hooded cranes, mostly containing a large percentage of water.

10月19日至10月23日期间，扎龙保护区白头鹤的迁徙行为及食性调查课题组负责人在扎龙保护区进行了白头鹤调查，期间幸遇国际鹤类基金会的Claire女士和北京林业大学的郭玉民教授。军马场区域白头鹤调查显示出：调查期间，该区域分布有白头鹤1400只左右，每天清晨6:00左右从夜栖地飞往觅食地补充体能；觅食地主要为以玉米和豆科为主的农田，主要取食农田中遗留的玉 米、绿豆和红豆等。搜寻发现：觅食地的粪便较少，多为应急情况下水分较多的稀便。

It was sunny in the morning, and there was north wind of 3-4 degrees. The temperature began to drop. The water in the lakes was covered with thin ice.

A total of 1225 hooded cranes were seen flying from their sleeping sites between Junmachang and Xiaoyushu from 6:09am to 6:34am.

At 1:10pm some of them returned to the sky flying over their sleeping sites, then disappeared out of sight.

We will continue monitoring this area before confirming that all the stopping over hooded cranes in Lindian have migrated southwards.

2011年10月24日，黑龙江省林甸县，今早晴，有三到四级偏北风，天开始降温，水面结了薄冰。6:09到6:34记录到1225只白头鹤从军马场和小榆树之间的夜栖地飞出。下午13:10部分白头鹤返回夜栖地上空，盘旋而上消失在东南方向的云端。是否全部迁离有待继续调查。

Over one hundred hooded cranes have migrated to their wintering ground Kagoshima, Japan. Still a large number of hooded cranes have not yet left Lindian County , Heilongjiang Province, China.

A total of 1387 hooded cranes were seen flying from their sleeping sites between Junmachang and Xiaoyushu from 6:07am to 6:42am, leading to us believing that the majority have not yet embarked on their winter migration southwards.

We also spotted four hooded cranes and thirteen red-crowned cranes foraging in the vicinity of the sleeping sites of hooded cranes.

2011年10月23日，已经有超过百只白头鹤到达日本鹿儿岛，但是在黑龙江省林甸县尚有大量白头鹤停歇。今天早上6:07到6:42观察到1387只白头鹤从军马场到小榆树之间的夜栖地飞出，说明它们还没有大举南迁。同时观察到4只白头鹤及13只丹顶鹤在白头鹤夜栖地附近采食。

12 Oct 2011 saw the last wild hooded crane leaving Xinqing, the breeding habitat of hooded cranes. Judged from the photo taken in Xinqing Wetland Park, it was a 2-year-old juvenile. Our monitoring records show that the same individual arrived in Xinqing on 5 Oct 2011 and stayed for one week after which it has never been sighted.

By 12 Oct 2011 all wild hooded cranes had left Xinqing for their wintering habitats.

In 2011 we banded a total of 10 hooded cranes in Xinqing.

2011年10月12日，最后一只野生个体迁离白头鹤繁殖地新青。从在新青湿地公园附近拍摄的照片上看，该个体是一只2龄亚成体。根据观察记录，这只白头 鹤是2011年10月5日到达新青的，停歇一周后消失。再未发现它的踪影，推测它已经离开新青。至此，2011年新青地区的野生白头鹤全部离开，迁往越冬 地。本年度共计环志10只白头鹤，并完成了整个繁殖季节的全部监测任务，GMIA资助的小额项目圆满结束。

According to Jianguo Fu who was monitoring the hooded cranes at the same place in Lindian as during the previous days, a total of 1396 hooded cranes flew from their sleeping grounds up, 87 more than on the previous day.

In the morning there was northwest wind of 3-4 degrees.

During half an hour hundreds of hooded cranes were hovering in the air practising flying.

It is expected that they will migrate southwards at the first sign of a steep temperature drop.

2011年10月10日，今晨据在现场监测的付建国先生记录，在前两日的相同地点，共有1396只白头鹤从夜栖地飞出，比昨天多了87只。昨天上午有三到 四级西北风，几百只白头鹤出现翱翔练飞行为，持续半个多小时。预计随着种群数量的递增，一旦出现急剧降温等情况它们就可能大举南迁。

Sunny. Occasional clouds.

The first group of hooded crane flew up at 5:35am, a few minutes later than on the previous day.

Between 5:35am and 6:10am, at the same place as the previous observation day, a total of 1288 hooded cranes were sighted flying over us. That was 207 more than the previous day.

In fact the results of our survey show an increasing number of hooded cranes day after day.

The largest group contained 53 individuals.

Among the 203 hooded cranes we carried out for statistics, 25.62% were fledglings.

2011年10月9日，日出时有云。白头鹤第一群起飞略晚几分钟。早上5点35分开始至6点10分止，在昨天相同的地点，共有1288只白头鹤飞越，比昨 天的在数量上多了207只，最大群为53只。近几天调查结果显示迁徙停歇种群数量呈增加趋势。对203只白头鹤进行了成幼比统计，幼鸟占总数的 25.62%。
