GRUS MONACHA INTERNATIONAL AID (GMIA) is a UK-registered incorporated charity to promote the preservation and conservation of the endangered Hooded Crane (Grus monacha) (白头鹤) and protect its breeding habitats in particular but not exclusively in forest wetlands in Lesser Khingan Mountains from deforestation and wetland reclamation through creating a network of international and national effort typically by means of financial aid, global awareness raising, introducing sustainable energies and nurturing public appreciation of the artistic & spiritual value of cranes.

Grus for 'crane' and monacha for 'female monk', this secretive and heavenly bird carries blessings of longevity and of life-long companionship. The crane is worshipped in China, Korea and Japan, yet is rarely seen by humans except in art works.

In addition to the conservation work, GMIA has started a CEO (Chinese-Earthquake-Orphan) program to provide long-term support for 5.12 earthquake orphans and sends Thousand-Origami-Cranes from UK to the orphans. It is believed that Thousand-Origami-Cranes carry messages of love across long distances.
